Some historical facts

A magnificent place steeped in history

Built in the middle of the 18th century, Strasbourg’s former National Stud Farm represents an outstanding estate. Its fronts, roofs, monumental gate and the Royal Stables, all achieved according to tradition, are classified as historical monuments.

As the headquarters of the city’s horseriding academy from 1752, the site was occupied by the Royal Stud Farm in 1756, at the insistence of Marquis D’Argenson who was director of the Kingdom’s stud farm at that time.

It is the royal program of the National Stud Farm which created the Grand Stables, which shuts off the inner courtyard to the north. It stands out as a sheer stud farm according to the great tradition.

Six high semicircular molded arches distributed around a prominent central section occupy the main front unique level entirely made of pink sandstone. In front of the Grand Stables, the esplanade of the open air riding arena stretches out, to provide sufficient space for cavalry horseriders.
